In our current global village, with complex linked systems and ubiquitous information networks, the need for security is increasing to protect data, goods and people privacy.

Many applications require a very high and reliable level of security functions and cryptography for IP protection and anti-cloning, strong Machine-to-Machine authentication, software protection against malware, worms and virus, secure data storage, logical and physical access control. Cryptography doesn't mean security. Only the right combination between a tamper resistant and evident hardware together with properly developed software can guarantee a reasonable level of security and trust.

With its over 25-years experience in designing highly secure microcontrollers for smartcard applications (Common Criteria EAL4+/EAL5+, FIPS 140-2 Level 3 and 4, ZKA and EMVCo certificates), Atmel is the right partner to provide efficient Embedded Security solutions.

The easy integration of security in any system is made possible thanks to a suitable choice of industry standard interfaces (USB, SPI, I²C…), various packages and even a complete certified firmware.

Depending on the application, three product families are available:

• Turnkey Security Modules: very fast time-to-market with no security related software development
• Communicating Secure Microcontrollers which offer a complete choice of security functions with customer firmware development
• Secure System on Chip for demanding applications requiring a complete bunch of interfaces.
